Our Story

Every entrepreneur has a story, but few are built with the quiet determination of Akash Sharma, the founder of The Chhapai — a rising D2C clothing brand that stands for creativity, courage, and persistence.

Akash’s journey began back in 2018, when he was working as a software developer and experimenting with side projects. That’s when he launched his first venture, Chappai.com, an e-commerce website selling printed mobile covers. What started as a small collaboration with a friend soon became a valuable classroom. Akash learned design, marketing, customer behavior, and how an idea becomes a business.

When the pandemic hit, supply chains broke down, his partner moved back to his hometown, and the venture had to pause. But instead of giving up, Akash turned inward — learning new skills so he’d never again have to depend on someone else to keep his dream alive.

In 2021, he tested the waters again with Kapdewala, a small clothing project born from just ₹10,000 and a lot of courage. Coming from a middle-class family where everyone held government jobs, Akash was the first to step into entrepreneurship — with no backup plan or financial safety net. Still, he treated Kapdewala as a real-world experiment to study market trends, consumer response, and his own ability to manage end-to-end operations.

That experiment worked. It gave him clarity — not just about business, but about identity. Akash realized he wanted a brand that felt personal yet global, something that represented creativity, quality, and resilience. From those lessons emerged The Chhapai, a modern clothing label inspired by his first venture but designed for a much larger vision.

Today, The Chhapai isn’t just another apparel brand. It’s the story of a self-made entrepreneur who built everything from scratch, learning and growing through every challenge.

“I don’t know if this time I’ll win or fail — but I do know I won’t stop trying,” says Akash. “Because The Chhapai isn’t just what I wear — it’s what I believe in.”
